Geography with Wisdom

We're getting practical this week and talking about geography in our homeschools. How do apply knowledge and wisdom to other parts of the world?

“Perhaps no knowledge is more delightful than such an intimacy with the earth’s surface, region by region, as should enable the map of any region to unfold a panorama of delight, disclosing not only mountains, rivers, frontiers, the great features we know as ‘Geography,’ but associations, occupations, some parts of the past and much of the present, of every part of this beautiful world.” Charlotte Mason, volume 6

1:38- The UK is a lot different from where I grew up in Indiana!

2:44- How do you think Charlotte Mason's view of geography is different than is in schools today?

“The teaching of Geography suffers especially from the utilitarian spirit.” Volume 6

4:17- It's a little bit different over here because geography is an exam subject.

6:00- I don't think Charlotte Mason liked math very much, but she loved geography. When she talks about geography, we need to pay extra special attention to it. In volume 6, she says that when you are reading a book, find the location on a map.

7:28- She said to start by gaining knowledge about their own country and then moving on to neighboring countries.

9:50- Listed in Home Education- Learning the directions, NSEW; Making a sun dial; distance; boundaries; land formations through play...

11:30- Have you learned geography in this way?

13:44- What living books we use for geography.

19:00 Great Lakes Song

21:13- Geography notebook illustrating geographical features they've seen in books.

21:57- Map work with Simply Charlotte Mason geography.

23:10- Let's connect this to wisdom. It's easy to get puffed up with

  1. I’m wondering which Bible atlas (that has living text) was mentioned here. We’ve had a hard time finding one.
